Translation of the week

Currently we have started a project on meta.wikipedia to get an article translated in as many wikipedias as possible every week. The article will be about a subject that usually gets rarely translated and has a lot of links to other subjects. Currently we have no-one to translate in your language. If someone is interested to participate please see: meta:Translation of the week You can also submit articles from your own languages there that you think deserve translation, but have a small chance of it. The articles must not be to short and not to long and have lots of links to possible other articles! en:user:Waerth

Language.php

There is no language file for ka yet. I think you need to choose one in a language you know from the list at sourceforge and translate that. The MediaWiki namespace pages overwrite the language file, so you don't need to translate things in the language file that are already in the MediaWiki namespace. It's best not to base your translation on the English version since that contains a lot of stuff you don't need. If all you need to do is translate months and weekdays names, you might find it quicker just to ask at m:Non-development tasks for developers for a developer to add these. I'm very excited to see somebody is working on the Georgian Wikipedia now!!!!!!!

I have a few questions and suggestions...

1. Have you considered asking other people to come help build the Georgian Wikipedia? You might try online communities in Georgian...

3. Where did you hear about the Georgian Wikipedia? I have tried publicising it in some parts of the Internet, I have sent e-mails and such, but even so until now there was no real action here.

4. What is the Georgian translation for "Wikipedia - The free encyclopedia" (where 'free' means "unrestricted" and not "no cost", as in "free software"; I think the word may be თავისუფალი)? I was hoping to make a logo.

The best place to ask is at m:Non-development tasks for developers. I noticed the namespaces are changed. Are any pages already in these namespaces (ვიკიპედია: rather than Wikipedia:)? Hello Malafaya. I am sorry to hear about Avtandil. I'm sure he'll be very missed by the community here. Unfortunately, the steward interface is broken at the moment so I can't make Zangala an admin immediately. Please remind me of this in a few days, or post to meta:requests for permissions when that page is back up. Stewards do not act on local wikis, so what you probably mean is that you need bureaucrats for this wiki. Map Upload

hi the picture which I had uploaded isn't same as http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Second_world_war_europe_1941-1942_map_de.png I just used original German map as a sourse and changed the name of european states from german into Georgian. I think so would be easy for my landsmen to undestead the map.

is it ok ?

Wikipedia Mirror in Georgia & Mediawiki Translation

Hello Malafaya, i´m contacting you from Georgia, i´m presenting myself as member of Georgian Internet Alliance. We have some plans around one project about Open Source Software, Community Portal, support and open documentation & etc. Maybe we can help wikipedia/wikimedia to make it´s mirror on our future server in Georgia to help local visitors view wikipedia much faster, effective. We need to know, how is possible to make only ka.wikipedia.org-s mirror for firts step and then whole your database.

We are officialy working under translation of KDE, mozilla, opera, & other free software. Currently we are now little busy to work under translations, while we are organizing several projects and portals but i think it will be done with mediawiki translation in a week. Main programming-specific part is already done, but i have not uploaded it on sourceforge yet.

Also we want to help wikpedia editors to communicate - we wil create special section and we also plan to add mediawiki engine for tests.

New Mainpage

There is a minor bug I can't figure out what interferes with the table template when I insert it in a page. This template (created for wiki announcements) {{განცხადება}} removes all sections divisions from that page, see: {{განცხადება}} I tried template {{Subst}} with it but it didn't help either. Subst is not useful here as I'd like that template to get updated automatically whenever there is a new message to a group of active moderators and on the village pump (ყავახანა). Hi Malafaya, the opinion poll shows the second (short) version is the favorite so far. I suppose we could go ahead with the change (minor adjustments could be made later)? When you have time please have a look - there is a minor bug - the successive boxes become slightly narrower. Also we've managed to hide the Mainpage title and the namespace is now called "მთავარი გვერდი” instead of the ”სტატია”, which I think is a good step forward. Although this morning the title was back for an hour or so. I suspect a line's missing in the mediawiki:monobook.css (see discussion on Zangala's talk page). robot registration

Hi, Malafaya. It would be good to have a bot on Georgian wiki for automaticaly making years, centauries etc. So that we wont have to do all the job manualy (Complaints heard from other users): years BC remain to be done, and some AD as well. We could also use the bot for similar tasks involving numbers.

Codes for such bots are available from mediawiki I think. Anyway, recently Hedgehog, who is from Russian wikipedia, by my request generated some years from his ordinary useraccount. He also sent the code to me, but I don't know how to operate bots even from ordinary useraccount. Couldn't we register the bot? Alternatively, if registration process is much trouble, I or someone else could uploade the years from ordinary useraccount. But again I do not know how it's done. What should we do? Some years, especially those created manually earlier are done in that way, notably the range 1800 - 2000 and beyond. Then another slightly different version was employed by manual workers e.g. 1. Hedgehog initially wrote his code for the first version (the one he sent to me), then changed it to the second, so the years created by him are second version. It is now for us to decide what to do. A few more visual improvements on the edit page:

• checkbox message: ”ამ გვერდის კონტროლი” - "ამ" is redundant in Georgian, just ”გვერდის კონტროლი” should be enough.

Hi, Malafaya. Good job, the years. Why not do couple of more centauries BC? One problem now, when inserting links to images from English wikipedia in the code the imiges do not then always appear. See ლომი and არწივი for example. Can we fix this? Tamok 18:48, 9 აგვისტო 2006 (UTC)

many wikis have way more than 500. Years are not great issue to me, in the sense that I do not normally edit that pages. But, we already have some years done in 8 7 6 centauries, mostly by the user მომხმარებელი:Trulala. She is interesed in ancient history. You deserved the break :), but before you leave, shall we do a bit of clean-up on the interface? მედიავიკი:Sidebar needs a bit of improvement, it's too bulky. To make it more consistent and fit each link on one line, my suggestion is to modify text in two lines only:

Hallom, I noticed decades in English wiki but in others which I have seen there are years.. may by I'm wrong.. anyway, I have already created some years besore 500BC because as you know, I'm writing about Roman History, so I needed also up to VIII century BC... so if you decide make decades, it will be easy to transfer info from that years info decade articles...--ტრულალა (გ) 11:03, 11 აგვისტო 2006 (UTC)

Malafaya, I see you made years before 500bc. If we see latter that these remain empty or almost empty, we'd better group them into decades, to which the individual years will be redrected. I only just noticed how it is done on English wikipedia. Some other wikis do have those years seperately, but most of them empty. Cheers, Tamok

an entry in the local mediawiki:sitenotice will override the centrally posted message. If we want to keep it there then let's insert this translation in the mediawiki:

Vandalism

today, about 17:00 gmt+3 on Georgian wikipedia was vandalism facts. somebody under IP 85.108.164.3 deleted artikles and instead write phrase "independent abkhazia". As I find out this IP belongs to TurkTelekom, its IP range is: 85.108.0.0 - 85.108.255.255. is it posible to block all unregistered users with TurkTelekom IP to prevent new vandals?
