한국어: 약사불은 갖가지 질병을 고쳐주며 재난에서 벗어나게 하고 음식과 옷을 제공하는 등, 지금 살고 있는 세상의 이익과 매우 가까운 부처이다. 보살 신분이었을 때는 중생을 구원하겠다는 내용을 포함한 12가지 큰 소원을 지녔고, 부처가 된 후에는 동방에 위치한 유리광세계(琉璃光世界)를 다스리게 되었다. 약사불상은 일반적으로 둥근 약단지를 든 모습으로 만들어졌다. 우리나라에서 약사불상이 본격적으로 유행한 것은 통일신라시대이다. 주로 독립상으로 제작되었지만, 여러 방향에 머무르는 부처를 표현한 사방불(四方佛)에서는 동방에 머무르는 부처로 표현되었다.
