== George Eristavi State Dramatic Theatre ==
Giorgi Eristavi Gori State Drama Theatre is the only active professional theatre in the whole Shida
Kartli region. the teatre is 167 years old. The first public performance in Gori was held in 1845 on July,
26. Since then amateur performances were held in Gori. The professional theatre dates back to 1850
and the first performance was “The Divorce”, a play by Giorgi Eristavi, who was one of the founders
of the Georgian critical realism. He was also a publicman, who took an active part in the life of the
country. For his great deserts in 1947 the theatre was named after him. The building of the theatre
was completed in 1939 and in January of 1940 the first performance was shown. It was “The Crossing”
by J.Gedevanishvili. It was highly appraised by the audience. Many outstanding producers worked
at this theatre, such as: P.Prangishvili, V.Kushitashvili, S.Vachnadze, L.Ioseliani, G.Abramashvili, famous
actors and actresses, such as: T.Abashidze, T.Eristavi, K.Bochorishvili, Sh.Kherkheulidze, V.KaKhniashvili,
and many others. Many interesting performances were staged here, that gave a fame to the theatre
and many of them belong to the “Golden Fund”. Many actors were brought up and mastered on the
stage of this theatre. The theatre still continues keeping rich creative traditions and takes an active part
in cultural life of the country.
